After a car wreck, you may not know what to do next to treat your injuries. You may think they are not severe enough to warrant medical treatment. This article will help you answer whether chiropractic treatment is right for me after a car wreck. Roadrunner Law Firm partners with Albuquerque Neck and Back Pain Center to ensure our clients get the best treatment available after a car accident. We sat down with Doctor Christopher Cecil this week to talk about what our clients can expect walking into his practice. Dr. Cecil is a Chiropractic Physician, Chiropractic Orthopedist, and a Family Nurse Practitioner who has been practicing for 32 years and has been healing Albuquerque residents for over 20. You couldn’t be in better hands.
Dr. Cecil says his most common patient is one dealing with stiffness and pain after an auto accident. Whiplash is incredibly common in an accident. As your head jolts from side to side it stretches and could potentially tear the ligaments in your neck. When this happens the muscles along your spine develop knots. The three doctors at Albuquerque Neck and Back Pain Center specialize in spinal manipulation to focus on these painful trigger points and return free mobility to the spine.
Albuquerque Neck and Back Pain Center uses a series of different tools to return the patient back to their pre-wreck self. An x-ray is taken to get a full scope of the damage. Once Dr. Cecil understands the injury his patient is dealing with, he implements several different forms of physiotherapy.
- Electrical Stimulation is used to contract weak or damaged muscles to help decrease pain and spasms.
- Therapeutic Ultrasound Treatment is used to promote blood flow and reduce swelling and inflammation.
- Dry Hydrotherapy looked the most relaxing to me. It’s essentially a water bed that offers a warm massage by way of hot pressurized water.
- Lastly, Laser Therapy is used to reduce pain and accelerate the healing process for damaged tissues.
He discussed the above services with me, but you can view a full list of his services here. You can also take a Virtual Office Tour!
I asked Dr. Cecil for one key tip for our clients who are dealing with pain after an accident. His response: avoid a gap in treatment. Unlike the car you get serviced after a wreck, your body isn’t replaceable. Most of our clients avoid immediate treatment after an accident because they think the pain will simply go away… it won’t. A gap in treatment is not only detrimental to your own physical health, but could quickly damage your insurance claim after an accident. An insurance adjuster who sees that you waited weeks or months to seek treatment after an accident will assume that to mean your injury isn’t as bad as you say it is. You need an expert to look at your injury just like you need an attorney to handle your case.
